- The UPSC CSE Exam consists of three stages: Preliminary, Mains and Interview.
- The Preliminary stage is the first and qualifying stage of the UPSC CSE exam. UPSC CSE Exam Date 2023 is scheduled to be held on May 28, 2023, as per the UPSC Calendar 2023.
- The UPSC CSE Prelims Admit Card 2023 will be out by 15 May 2023.
- The Prelims exam consists of two papers which will be conducted as per UPSC CSE Prelims Exam Date 2023 : General Studies and CSAT, Candidates who qualify the prelims exam will be eligible to appear for the mains exam, which will be held in September 2023.

UPSC CSE Exam 2023 Marking Scheme
The UPSC CSE 2023 Exam is a competitive examination and it consists of three stages: as we already discussed above Preliminary, Mains and Interview. UPSC IAS Admit Card 2023 for the Prelims Exam will be available soon. The marking scheme for each stage is as follows.
- Preliminary – The Preliminary exam comprises two papers of 200 marks each. The papers are objective type and have negative marking of one-third for each wrong answer.
- Mains – The Mains exam consists of nine papers of conventional (essay) type. The papers are: Paper-I is Essay Type, Paper-II about General Studies-I, Paper-III is General Studies-II, Paper-IV is about General Studies-III, Paper-V is General Studies-IV, Paper-VI and Paper-VII (Optional Subject), Paper-A (Indian Language) and Paper-B (English).
- For the Mains exam total Marks are1750. The marks obtained in Paper-A and Paper-B are not counted for the final ranking, but only for qualifying for the interview.
- Interview – The Interview or personality test carries 275 marks. The candidates who qualify the mains exam are called for the interview by the UPSC. The Marks obtained in the Interview are added to the marks obtained in the Mains exam to determine the final Ranking of the candidates.
